This thesis presents a simple and efficient communication scheme that ensures causal ordering message delivery in closed group communication, which allows a process only sends message to the groups of which it is member. The proposed scheme is based on the structure of a propagation tree, which is formed of meta- groups of the processes. The mechanism allows a process to join in several groups at the same time, namely, groups may overlap each other. By taking advantages of the characteristics of the tree structure and the closed group communication, our approach is able to ensure causal ordering delivery with only small overhead(extra information appended on each messag) for closed group communication. The size of the extra information piggybacked on each message is equal to the number of the primary meta-groups in the system, which is typically small. The number of primary meta-groups is no greater than that of the groups in the system. Moreover, the size of our exatra information slowly grows in the large system. The correctness of the proposed mechanism is rigorously proved in the thesis. Chiu Ge-Ming 邱舉明 1996 學位論文 ; thesis 60 en_US
