Utilizing the observability property and linear projection method, we have developed a technique to select an appropriate initial state at the switching instant which is a simple procedure for reducing the system transient. By replacing the system with a state enlarged variable-order time-variant system in the transient region, we can significantly reduce the transient components in the system output. To employ the spectral factorization technique, we can produce suboptimal realizations of lower order. If the filter is realized with special filter structure, suitable techniques have also been developed. Examples have been demonstrated with difference equation filter structures.
