Two 45。 pitched-blade downward turbines were in series employed as the agitator. The length and width of baffle in this tank are smaller than those of the conventional agitated tank. While the impellers swirl at high speed, the vortex is formed at the central surface of the liquid. The merits of higher gas utilization ratio, longer gas retention time in liquid, and lower power consumption for agitation can be achieved. In the experimental studies, tap water and air were used as operational fluids. Several variables including the impeller speed, the diameter of impellers, the height of liquid level, and the width of baffles have been considered.
