resin on the miscibility of styrene (ST)/UP binary systems
and ST/UP/LPA(low profile additive)ternary systems at room
temperature were investigated. The first series of UP was
made from maleic anhydride(MA), neopentyl glycol(NPG), and
diethylene glycolDEG)with varied molar ratio of NPG and DEG.
The second series of UP was made from MA , and propylene glycol
(PG)with and without modification by a saturated dibasic
aromatic anhydride or acid , such as phthalic anhydride(PA)
and isophthalic acidIPA). As for the third series of UP , MA-
PA-PGype of UP was modified by a second glycol , such asEG ,
2-methyl-1,3-propanediol(MPDiol), andPG , to partially
replace PG. In addition , based onhe MA-PA-PG-DEG type of UP
, other UPs witharied degree of unsaturated for C=C bonds
andolecular weight respectively were synthesized. Theipole
moment ,μ , and solubility parameter, δ , forP and the Flory-
Huggins interaction parameter , χ,or ST/UP binary systems
have been calculated on theasis of group contribution
methods. Finally , theiscibility data of styrene/UP/LPA
ternary systemsave also been explained in terms of the
polarityifference between UP and LPA.
