However, a comprehensive analysis of the entire measuring operation should be conducted through a systematic method, before the application of any of the planning technique. This systematic analysis should consider measuring planning and inspection operations at the same time to let measuring operations be incorporated in entire manufacturing system. To clearly describe the functions and requirements of the measuring operation, an IDEF0 model was used in this paper to represent the information flow and material flow of a coordinate measuring system from a macro perspective and a micro perspective at the same time. Besides, to reach the goals of accuracy and effectiveness in the design of information flow in the measuring system, an integrated model combining the IDEF0 functional model and the IDEF1X database model was proposed in this study to develop the measuring information system.
