Plasma lipids, liver lipids, fecal CS (FCS), fecal lipids(FL) and fecal nitrogen(FN) content were examined. All teas had no effects on plasma lipids, liver CS,FCS and FL content, but decrease liver triglycerides and liver total lipids and increase FN excretion causing a decrease of apparent nitro- gen absorption(ANA).There was no difference among those teas. This study also investigated Pu-erh tea given in different forms and concentrations on lipid metabolism of rats. Male S.D. rats fed 15% lard and 1% CS in their diet were given 2% Pu-erh tea infusion as drinking water,2% Pu-erh tea powder,1.5% or 3% Pu-erh tea extract respectively in the diet for 30 days.Plasma lipids, liver lipids,FCS,FL,FN content and the weight of epi- didymal adipose tissue(EAT) were examined. Rats drinking tea infusion had no significant change in lipid metabolism, but rats fed 2% powder showed a increase of feces output and FN content while a decrease of ANA and the weight of EAT.Diet with 3% extract caused decwrease in feed intake, body weight gain, liver weight, liver CS,ANA and the weight of EAT,but increased feces output and FN.1.5% extract had effects on feces output,FN con- tent and the weight of EAT were similar to those of 3% extract. The phenolic compounds of teas were also analyzed to under- stand the relationship between the results of animal experiment and the phenolic compounds in teas. Since there was no obser- vable difference among the various teas in the animal studies, the relationship between the phenolic compounds in tea and the result of animal experiments can not be abtained.
