The operative variables were pressure, pore size, and molecular weight of organic (6K-35K). The basis operative test has demonstrated that near 100% of recovery rate could be attained with concentrate water recycling, even under the pressure of only 10 psi. The results of the polyethylene glycol (PEG)-containing water show decreases in permeation, and that the concentration polarization is responsible for the decreased permeation. Furthermore, High molecular weight of PEG decreases the permeation. Similar observations were also noted for the synthetic water with humic acid addition. In general, 10K daltons of PS membranes only need 288 m3 for a population of one million people under the operative pressure of 10 psi, which is far smaller than the volume of conventional coagulation-settling tank.
