widely used in numerous practical devices, such as cyclone
separaror, Ranque-Hilsch tube, swirl combustor , etc. Although
there have been hundreds references existed in the literature
of the swirling flows, however , the behavior of swirling flow
is still not well known, especially in the near flow filed. In
this paper, the vortex was generated in a circular pipe by
injecting water tangentially through two diametrically opposed
feeder tubes at the outside edge of the tube. Flow-
visualizations and LDA-measurements were used to experimentally
investigated the flow. Results from Numerical calculations by
a commercial package Flow3D were used to help understanding the
detailed structure and flow mechanisms of the three-dimentional
complex flow.
