today. Most of these systems can only support some specific
functions and may contain some aging components. To change some
obsolete components or to add new components might amount to a
re-design and re-implementation of the whole system, which is
expensive and time-consuming. In this thesis ,a development
platform for stock trading DSSs is proposed with two emphases:
(1) to give a flexible environment for developing various stock
trading DSSs for specific needs, and (2) to facilitate the
reuse of components from existing DSSs and the incorporation of
new components. This platform is object-oriented in nature to
facilitate the management, integration, and reuse of system
components. The proposed system consists of three major
architectural components, namely, database, model base, and
user-interface subsystems. This thesis focuses on the database
subsystem and the model base subsystem. Special attention was
paid to version management to allow users to keep multiple
versions of some specific DSS while avoiding the proliferation
or unnecessary re-generation of redundant information. Both
definition time and run-time techniques were considered to
address this particular issue.
