In order to provide seamless handoff especial for multimedia traffic transmission in wireless communication networks, tree structured connection between the source, destination and their neighboring base stations is introduced. Owing to the network performance is significantly relative to the tree structure, in this thesis, the problem of constructing a tree structure with minimized total path length and handoff time is also investigated. Four heuristic algorithms are proposed to construct a tree structure with minimized total path length or handoff time. Simulation results show that the proposed heuristics perform well to construct the tree structures.
