This tester can not only observe the dynamic distribution of solid additives in oils directly, but also obtain film thickness based on optical interferometry. Fur- thermore, the effects of solid additives on film thickness in oils and the effects of concentration and size of solid additives on lubrication characteristics under various operating condition, such as speed, load, are also investigated. The results will be used to verify with the theory analysis of two phase (liquid- solid) lubricant. The concentration of graphite can increase the film thickness and the lubrication effect can be improved under low load and high speed, but these functions have their limita- tions. However, the use of graphite in the oilis not so obvious on the improvement of lubrication characteristics under high load and low speed. Generally, the lubrication effect depends on the size of graphite particle where the small one can give a better lubrication effect, but the big one can not increase film thick- ness, so the lubricated effect of big particle is not obvious.
