In this thesis , Fuzzy algorithm technique is developed for distribution network reconfigurations to minimize feeder losses. Two membership functions were defined for tie-switch selection and another two membership functions were developed for the optimal sectionalizing switch selection. Through the "set" operations of all the membership functions, the optimal on-off switch pairs can be determined.In addition,a trans- former management algorithm based on the linear programming was also developed for the distribution system. Linear progra- mming will mix up various load types according to an optimized proportion to increase transformer utilization factor and reduce system losses. One system of the Taipower company and another five selected examples were choosen for tests in this thesis. It can be shown that the fuzzy algorithm is effective enough to obtain optimal or near-optimal solutions for distribution feeder reconfigurations and linear programming method performs satis- factorily for transformer load management to reduce system losses.
