Because of volatility and decomposition characteristic of pollutants during sample transportation and storage, it is difficult to obtain accurate composition of contaminants. Therefore, a rapid, accurate and economical on-site analysis system would help to delineate the palution plume on a contaminated site. The principle of the system is to desorb the pollutants from the liquid and solid phases of soil matrix to the headspace by heating, and then the compounds can be quantified by an OVA or GC/FID. Therefore, this system can be operate and analyze the organic contaminations of soil on site. The results show that the optimum analysis conditions of the system are as followed:heating temperature is 60℃;heating power is 200W;heating time is 10 minute; soil weight is 50 gram, and volume of heating vessel is 500 ml. The applied range of concentration is from 500 to 10000 ppm. The percentage of recovery is 65% for total petroleum hydrocarbons, 60% for benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene. If soil moisture is too dry or too moist (18%), the recovery rate of TPH and BTEX will be decreased. Soil texture is also an important factor. For example, the recovery rate of TPH from sand is 66%, but clay is only 41% in the dry environment. The recovery will be better if that the soil sample is mixed during heating and soil organic matter content is less. Cheng Shuang-Fu, Yeh Kuei-Chun 鄭福, 葉桂君 1996 學位論文 ; thesis 78 zh-TW
