The existenceand relative locations of possible aquitards, aquifers and aquicludesare discerned using soil sample profiles prepared from drilling. Themethod of drawdown derivative is employed to diagnose the drawdownvariations contained in each set of drawdown data produced by pumpingtests. As an objective means, this method can be employed to diagnosedrawdown data and thus the most suitable well hydraulics theories ormodels can be selected to analyze the drawdown data. Through fieldapplications in the Choa-shui alluvium fan, it is shown that accurateresults of aquifer characterization and parameter estimation can beobtained by employing the well hydraulics theories selected by themethod of drawdown derivative.
