Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立中央大學 === 化學工程學系 === 84 === Clinically, there is a great demand on small-diameter vascular grafts, including the grafts for coronary artery bypass and peripheral vascular vessel replacement, the A-V shunts for dialysis, and the B-T shunts for congenital heart repair, etc. Although the biostability of autografts and homografts is satisfactory in their clinical use, the resource of these grafts is limited. On the contrary, there is no limitation in heterograft resource. However, previous clinical results have shown that the cross-linking characteristics of the glutaraldehyde-fixed heterograft is poor. The problems encountered with the glutaraldehyde-fixed heterograft are thrombosis, calcification, and poor plibility. It is thought that these problems may be related with the chemical reagent, glutaraldehyde, used in fixing heterograft. To overcome these problems, we plan to use a new fixation reagent, epoxy compound, to treat heterograft. Also since the annual pig production in Taiwan is about 13 millions, we decided to use porcine artery as our heterograft raw materials. The study is to investigate the biostability of the epoxy compound-fixed heterograft. The results of the study will allow us to evaluate if the epoxy compound-fixed heterograft is feasible to use as a small-diameter vascular graft in clinical practice.
