It has been shown that a compact wide-flange structural steel member can still fail in local buckling mode. This study is concerned with the post-buckling behavior of compact sections under general three dimensional loading including bending, axial load and torsion. In order to investigate the correlation among bending, axial load and torsion, eighteen members from two structural steel sections with various cross-sectional parameters were tested under nine different combination of above-mentioned loading. The bending capacity of tested members were compared to distinguish the effects of torsion, axial load and their combination in affecting a member''s bending performance. The deterioration in energy dissipation after members locally buckled is also compared and quantitatively evaluated. Ductility of members under different combined loading is also studied. It is found that both axial load and torsion have significant effects in reducing a member''s bending capacity and increasing its deterioration rate in energy dissipation after member is locally buckled. It is also found that ductility of members under combined loading is substantially reduced than that of member subjected to bending only. The reduction in ductility is more significant for members with larger depth/ width (d/b) ratio. Hsieh-Lung Hsu 許協隆 1996 學位論文 ; thesis 89 zh-TW
