Besides, the soil can be forced to drain to reduce the water content of soft cohesive soil, and quicklime pile method can improve the lateral earth pressure of the soil. The major principle of improvement is due to certain chemical processes that cause soft cohesive soil to coagulate, aggregate, and flocculate. Doing a lot of model tests to understand the benefits of improving softcohesive soil in thisstudy. According to the results of laboratory experi- ments, it is understood that mechanical and physical properties of soft cohe- sive soil which had been improved; moreover, to realize the situation that soil properties be changed with distance away from pile and slaked time. In addition, the aim of the studyis to understand the properties of quicklime pile that reduces the water content of the soil around the quklime pile. Under the same overburden pressure, using higher improving rate of volume have more obvious improvement effects than increasing in density of quicklime pile. The soil which is closer to the quicklime pile will have higher improvement effect in soil properties. As to reducing water content of soft cohesivesoil, this study combined theory analysis with different arragement of model piles to evaluate the effects of improvement by the quicklime pile. Accordingto the results, it is known that the evaluating fomula can evaluate the abili-ty of reducing water content by quicklime pile effectively.
