Along with the establishment of the SHR telecommunicationnetwork, an associated integrated network management system should also bedeveloped in order to do effective management. The goal of the thesis is todesign and implement a simulation system for SHR telecommunication networkas the test platform of the network management system. In this thesis, weanalyze the feature of each kind of network element and its supporting networkmanagement functions in the standard telecommunication network. The character-istics of the objects to simulated, the assumptions and the functionalrequirement of the simulation system are thus acquired. Then, we design andimplement the SHR telecommunication network simulation system on SUN SPARCWorkstation with UNIX and IBM Compatible PC with Windows 95, both of whichhave the communication function the TCP/IP Socket service. The main functionsof the implemented system include:(1) Simulate the network management functions supported by the various network elements.(2) Support the interface to generate the network events.(3) Support the interface to notify the network events to the network manageme system(4) Support the interface for the network management system to deliver the operations and to receive the operation responses. When the network management system is to be tested and be validated its functions, the simulation system will deliver the notification of the network events and the operation responses to the network management system, and receive the operations from it.
