Summary: | 碩士 === 國立成功大學 === 醫學工程學系 === 84 === Recent studies have indicated that the latency ,peak
velocity, and accuracy of saccadic eye movements of
patients with Parkinson's disease(PD) are different from
those of age matched control subject. Thus, these
quantitative measurements of eye movements could be used
for assessing the severity of Parkinsonism. The horizontal
saccadic eye movements detected by surface electrodes
are sampled by an A/D converter with 12-bit resolution at a
500 Hz sampling rate. For automatic data analysis, the Kalman
filtering approach is used for the detection of the initial
point of saccadic nystagmus. In addition, the system parameters
of second order system, such as damping ratio and natural
frequency, are used for the description of eye movements
charact eristics. Eight patients with mild Parkinsonism
(stage I) and eight patients with advance Parkinsonism
(stages II and III) are recruited for saccadic eye movement
study.Besides , ten normal young adults and nine elderly
subjects form the reference group. Our results show that longer
latency, lower peak velocity, and less accurate response in
the saccadic eye movement can be observed at elderly normal
and subjects with advanced Parkinsonism. These findings
from the conventional eye movement measurements are
consistent with the published data. In addition, we have
also found that the system parameters developed in this
research are more sensitive than those of conventional
measurements in differentiation of the severity of
Parkinsonism. These conclude that the system parameters
might be a better index for the assessment of eye movement for
subjects with Parkinsonism.
