However, there are still some unsolved certain problems. The third and fourth prototypes of the automatic tool changers, improved by Taiwan Leadwell CNC Machines Maf. Co. Ltd., are called LW type dual cam automatic tool changer. The purpose of the research is to analyze the performance of the existingm dual cam automatic tool changers, to identify the sources of the problems, and to provide means to solve these problems. The major existing problem of the LW type dual cam automatic tool changer is the vibration of the arm in the working cycle due to improper forces and clearances between members. This work derives equations for the geometric design of the cam surfaces, the analysis of machine dynamics, and the analysis of stress and deformation. And, an integrated computer program is developed for analyzing existing design and identifying the problems.
