This thesis provides a new version of block-matching algorithm. Instead of searching every block''s motion vector, we estimate the motion vectors for half of the blocks in a frame by block-matching technique. The motion vectors of the other blocks are obtained from the the vectors of the neighboring block. Next, we apply this technique to Three Steps Hierachical Search(TSHS). Finally, the algorithm called a modified version of Three Steps Hierachical Search( MTSHS) is implemented by FPGAs(Field Programmable Gate Arrays). According to the simulation results, we can find that the main advantage of this new technique is saving the searching time and the slight decline of performances is acceptable.
