With increasingly diverse QOS(Quality of Service) requirements, it is practical to perform prioritized restoration. In this thesis, prioritized pre-assigned backup VP(Virtual Path) restoration algorithm is proposed. A novel bi-directional restoration concept is proposed to shorten restoration time. Time to detect a failure of pre-assigned backup VP restoration is reduced via this approach. Another fallback restoration algorithm can be applied subsequently. Restoration performance is analyzed via computer simulation. Moreover, to improve pre-assigned restoration performance, simple routing schemes are proposed and discussed.
