The motor drive has often been identified as a highly efficient integral-horsepower drive, capable of a high horse- power output. These advantages make it an ideal power source for the future application. This thesis develops a DSP (Digital Signal Processor ) based motor drive for switched reluctance motors where H∞ control is employed to design the velocity controller and the current controller. This experimental system was implemented using a high-speed digital processor TMS320C31. To conclude the design results of several control structures were compared including square-wave, trapezoid-wave commutation methods, open-loop and closed-loop current control.
