Description
Summary:碩士 === 輔仁大學 === 化學系 === 84 === Liquid crystal 5-OCB(4'-Pentyloxy-4-biphenyl-carbonitrile) exhibts a nematic phase in general, while smectic phases may be induced when blended with some low molecular weight liquid crystals,Four types of alkoxyphyl ester LC (4-Cyanophenyl-4- butylbenzoate,G1 ;4-n-Butyl benzonic Acid 4-n-Hexyloxyphenyl Ester,G2 ;4-n-Pentyl benzoic Acid 4'-n-butyloxyphenyl Ester,G3 ;4-n-Pentylbenzoic Acid 4'-n-Octyloxyphenyl Ester,G4) were chosen and DSC ,POM as well as DDA were employedto study the behaviors of blended. Our study show that only G2,G3 and G4 blendedwith the ratio of 5:5,4:6,6:4, can generate smectic phase .These result were explained based on the configurations of liquid crystals. We use the nematic liquid crystal to blend instead of smectic liquid crystal ,it is because of the low viscosity of nematic liquid crystal, besides it isnot easy to induce phase separation.
