In this study, a method that evaluate the left ventricular performance using cardiac magnetic resonance images were derived. The derived method that uses non-invasive cardiac MR imaging to reveal the relation of myocardial mechanic property and cardiac pump function. This relation is derived from the change of LV chamber area and myocardial area.It is the ratio of Young's modules (stress/strain, T/L)and elastance(E). The derived relation is called TLE relation. The Young's modules is the ratio of stress and strain of myocardium. The stress of myocardium is directly proportional to pressure. The Elastance is the ratio of the change of pressure and the change of volume. Therefore, pressure can be canceled. Then, the TLE relation can be describe as function of the change of LV chamber and myocardial area . The relationship between TLE and LV chamber area is a second- order polynomial function. This relation can be the index of cardiac performance. Five sets of multi-phases, multi-slices (MPMS)short-axis cardiac magnetic resonance images were used to evaluate left ventricular contractive function. Four patients were with hypertension- hypertrophied cardiovascular disease. One is a 21 year-old young male without cardiovascular disease. For each image slice of each subject, the relation between TLE ratio and LV chamber area follows the common trend line. However,it is time consuming in acquiring MPMS MR images. The TLE relation of single-phase, multi-slices(SPMS) MR images were tested against MPMS MR images. The result agrees to our prediction. The TLE relation of MPMS and SPMS has a positive correlation. This result suggests taht SPMS MR imaging can be used to evaluate LV contraction function.
