IS profile and IS sophistication of large companies in Taiwan

Organizations with high IS sophisticationtend to be outstanding in corresponding industry. This study discusses ISsophistication and its relationship with organizational performance, ISstrategic planning, information architecture planning, IT infrastructureplanning, and IS profile. The study surveys the top 1000 companies in Taiwan. One hundred andsixty-four companies participated in this study, giving a response rate of16.4%. Through statistical analyses, it was found that:1. For IS sophistication, the overall score of all companies is 3.942. The score of manufacturing companies is 3.943. The score of service companies is 3.935. Approximately 70% of top 1000 companies located at the control and integration stage.2. IS sophistication has positive correlation with return on assets (ROA); the coefficient is 0.17812 (p=0.0451). The coefficient between return on sales (ROS) and IS sophistication is 0.15938 (p=0.0690) which is very close to the 0.05 significance level. Thus, the higher IS sophistication of an organization , the better its organizational performance.3. An organization will have more IS sophistication when it performs IS strategic planning, information architecture planning, or IT infrastructure planning.4. Every benchmark of IS sophistication will have higher score if an organization performs IS strategic planning, information architecture planning, or IT infrastructure planning.5.
