translating information, plays a very important roll in the
world of computer. In spite of the maturity of the computer
networking, most of the software released in today, a floppy
disk version is inevitable. Floppy disk is also the first
choice in back up the users' information and software. The
continuous improvement in the performance of the CPU can be
found from PC/XT to PENTIUM/PC and the operation system for the
MS-DOS is also updated from version 1.0 to 6.22 within the past
decade. However, the Read/Write ability in the floppy disk does
not have any outstanding improvement. Although there are many
disk utilities, such as Norton Utility, Pctools, can be used
for the disk recovery and management, the lack of improving
Read/White ability can also result in the low effiency in using
computer. There are some weaknesses found in mechanism and the
structure of the disk format when we develop and research the
Read/Write ability of the floppy disk. These shortcomings
include low-speed rotation, slow data translation and improper
disk formatting. Based on the investment in changing hardware
structure is too high to visible; therefore, this thesis is
mainly focused on new software technologies -- Shift-Sector
Format, Lessen-Gap Format and Spiral-Sector Format, in
formatting the floppy disk without changing the hardware
structure but solving the weakness of bad Read/Write ability.
Moreover, it will show that utilize these three formatting
technologies will enhance the computer efficiency in the
working environment using floppy disk.
