Summary:碩士 === 淡江大學 === 國際事務與戰略研究所 === 83 === In this thesis, the author through a historical review, discusses the various collective security systems ever applied to (or advocated by) Asian-Pacific countries and also analyzes the reasons behind their success or failure. By doing so, the author aims to find out a kind of regional security mechanism best suited for present-day Asian-Pacific countries in their pursuit of longstanding political and economic stability. In terms of methodology, "historical study" is adopted in this in which the time period for related discussions is from 1924-95. Readers will also find that the author has applied some basic theories regarding "collective security" and has referred to the past experiences of European and American countries in establishing regional security system. But the major emphasis is laid on an in-depth examination of the recent development of Asian-Pacific security system during the Post-Cold War period.
