First part is identify the spatial structure of both population density and of employment density in the Taipei metropolitan area . The method of cubic-spline density function,is flexible and it can match the necessary of the polycentric city,is applied to described the spatial distribution and its variation over time. From the test, we find both of the peak of population and employment density have movement out from the CBD. It is implied the phenomena of suburbanization of population and employment have occuried this years. It is possible that suburbanization of population is both a cause and an effect of employment decentralization. The second part is to build an empirical simultaneous equations, and using the technique of OLS and 2SLS to ex- plore the causality between population and employment. From the results of estimation have shown the movement of population and employment have influence each other basi- cally. Finally,in the period of 1986-1991,the result con- firms the movement of population was the significant de- terminant of the movement of emoloyment,and find the phe- nomena of " Jobs follow people " .
