One objective of this study is to obtain n-year(n=100,50, 25,10,0.5) return period wind speed and the probability distributions of n-year maximum wind speed. The design wind speeds of 24 stations are derived based on typhoon wind speed data between 1947 and 1991. The directional effect of wind speed is also studed. Since comfortability conside- ration plays an important role in tall building design, the second objective of this thesis is to study the reliabi- lity of relevant code provisions. A new provision with uniform bound for the fundamental period assures consistent comfortability criterion among different tall buildings. The top floor acceleration , upon which comfortability criterion is based, is composed of contribution from the along-wind, across-wind and rotational directions.
