In this thesis, the world-tool kit 2.0 will be used as a software development tool together with SGI indigo 2 computer to establish a virtual environment. The virtual environment will be used to simulate a real control system in 3D at remote cell. Some peripheral equipments such as 3D mouse, stereo glasses will support the operator for constructing this environment. The operator who is sitting before the monitor, wearing the stereo glasses and controlling the 3D mouse to change the viewpoint which is a coordinate value in the virtual environment. The position of the viewpoint is relative to the gripper of the robot arm at work cell. The virtual environment can be connected with robot arm control system by data commication technology to establish a virtual reality based remote control system.
