The researcher, who was also as participant observer, collected the data of twenty breastfeeding mothers'' hand contact behaviors with their babies during their first to fourth postnatal days. All active and purposive hand contact behaviors of subjects with the newborn bables were observed and recorded every 3 minutes in this period. Four thousand six hundred and fifty two behavior units about the subjects'' hand contact behaviors were found in this study. Every behavior unit included four components: the portion of mother using her hand, mother''s contact actions, baby''s body to be contacted, and the purpose of the contact. Mothers most ofthen used their fingertip, then palm, and fingers to contact their newborn babies. They rarely used their back of fingers and holding feeding materials to contact their babies. Mothers used eight contact''s actions: tapping, patting, brushing, grasping, stroking, rubbing, pinching, and displacing to contact their newborn babies. Mothers often used hand contact their newborn babies'' face, then trunk, extremities; but rarely contacted babies'' head. Mothers always used their fingertip to tap, brush, pinch, and rub their newborn babies'' face; used their palm to pat newborn babies'' trunk; used their palm to stroke and displace newborn babies'' head;and used their fingers to grasp newborn babies'' extremities. The purpose of contact behaviors included 3 catagories; knowing baby''s body characteristics, assuring baby''s body in perfect ondition, and developing the affective relationship with newborn babies. Most hand contact behavior (76.9%) were to assure baby''s body was in perfect condition of which included enhancing baby''s body function (such as: encouraging eating, helping sleeping, inducing sensory motor ability), maintaining baby in comfort physical state (such as changing uncomfortable phycical state and improving comfortable appearance, molding appearance, and avoiding destroying appearance). About 16.4% hand contact behaviors were to know baby''s body characteristics of which inclued exploring and inspecting the baby''s appearance, orienting baby''s body function, and assessing the baby''s physical state. Only 6.7% hand contact behaviors were to develop the affective relationship with newborn babies of which included evoking baby''s response and being immersed enjoyment. The main purpose of mothers'' hand contact behaviors was to accomplish mothers'' role runction of which included to idetify newborn babies, to supply comprehensive care to newborn babies, and to develop the affective relationship with newborn babies. All the above behviors were for binding to their newborn babies. The results of this study can help nurses to understand the purpose of mothers'' hand contact behaviors with newborn babies during the early postpartum period and provide appropriate nursing care to mothers. 余玉眉 1995 學位論文 ; thesis 125 zh-TW |
