The purpose of this study is to investigate the catalytic behavior of a series of porous solid catalysts for Beckmaim rearrangement of cyclohexanone oxime. By Using a series of catalysts with different levels of acidity modification. We found that the pore size of catalysts should be larger than 8.7 A, which allows reactants to diffuse through the catalyst pores and gives higher cyclohexanone oxime conversion. However, too larger the pore size such as MCM-41 might provide the possibilities of polymerization of caprolactam and hence lower down the caprolactam selectivity. Neutral of weak acids sites were found to be responsible for the Beckmann rearrangement. In contrast, strong acid site caused coke formation. Higher conversion and longer life-time were shown at 300℃ or higher reaction temperature.
