Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺灣大學 === 公共衛生學系 === 83 === Chinese incense smoke was prefiltered and its gaseous phase was absorbed to from aqueous solution. The aqueous solution contained formaldeyde, acetaldehyde, acrolein, and other unknown compounds but PAHs, Ames test was carried out to examine mutagenicities for various preparations with aqueous solution by using Salmonella typhimurium TA 102 strain in the absence of any exogenous source of metabolic activation. Mutagenicity was detected for aquous solution of incense smoke, pure formaldehyde solution, filter extract, and mix solution containing formaldehyde and cetaldehyde. For pure formldehyde solution as well as mixsolution, toxic effects to TA102 occurred when formaldehyde concentration is higher than 18 ug/plate. However, the pure acetaldehyde had no effect of mutagenicity but became toxic to TA102 when acetaldehyde concentration was over 5000 ug/plate . It was concluded that aqueous solution of incense smoke may cause certain degree of mutagenicity.
