By purposive sampling, one-hundred pairs of children aging from 3 to 7 and mothers were drawn from a Medical Center in Taipei. "Questionnaire survey method" and "behavioral observa- tion method" were chosen by "Temperament questionnaire" and "Behavioral response sacle" for assessing children''s temperament and their behavioral responses undergoing intravenous injection procedure. Descriptive statistics, general linear model, ANCOVA, repeated measures ANOVA, Scheffe''s posteriori comparison, Fisher''s exact proability test, Pearson''s product-moment correlation, partial correlation and stepwise regression analysis were used through SAS/PC computer program. The results revealed that "temperamental characteristics" were significantly correlative with "behavioral responses undergoing intravenous injection procedure". Children with temperamental characteristics of low rhythmicity, withdrawal, low adaptability, strong intensity of reaction, negative quality of mood, high persistency, and low threshold of responsiveness, showed higher degree of distress behavior. The related factors in behavioral responses of preschool-age children undergoing intravenous injection procedure were their age, the only child or not, education level, temperamental typing, preparing for hospitalization or not, being told bad for injection or not, injection position and injection numbers. The main predictive variables of behavioral responses were intensity of reaction, temperamental typing, injection numbers, approach or withdrawal, preparing for hospitalization. These variables can account for 72.52% of the variance. The results of this study could help nurses providing individualized nursing care. Chen, Yue Zhi 陳月枝 1995 學位論文 ; thesis 247 zh-TW
