Summary:碩士 === 國立臺灣大學 === 護理研究所 === 83 === The purpose of this study was to investigate the stress、 coping methods and needs of parents who had children suffering from β-thalassemia major. By means of purposive sampling, three educational hospital institutions from the Northern, Central and Southern Taiwan, from which one hundred and fifty nine parents were chosen research objects. The data analyses were conducted by employing self-structured questionnaires to conduct the investigations. in addition, factors analysis, T-test, GLM ANOVA and Pearson Correlation were also employed to analyze the data. The study results indicated that the structural factors of stress of the parents of β-Thalassemia major children could be divided into four categories: 1. Stress from the child patient ; 2. Stress from medical treatment ; 3. Stress from interpersonal relationships ; 4. Stress from the family care The intensity of stress could be considered as middle stress. Among the four categories, the greatest level of stress intensity improved on child''s parents comes from " Stress from the child patient ". The structural factors of coping methods of the child patients'' parents could be divided into three categories: 1. Facing the problem and seeking for solutions 2. Evading the problem and resorting to self consolation 3. Realizing the problem, but reacting passively The structural factors of the needs of the child patients'' parents could be divided into three categories: 1.Informatin seeking; 2. Psychosocial supports; 3. Financial assistance. The parents'' stress categories, categories of coping methods and categories of needs were all closely related.
