First, this study was designed to analyze the content of career education in two editions of elementary social science textbooks in Taiwan.Second, 454 students from southem area of Taiwan was investigated to understand the occupational prestige ranking, vocational interest, vocational rejection, vocational stereotype of elementary school students.   The main reult showed that:   1.In Taiwan, infuing career education into the elementary social science texbooks was similar to U.S.A.   2.There existed vocational and sexual stereotype in the elementary social science textbook in Taiwan.   3.For the scription of career education subsubjects and career roles, vocational models, orientation and strategy of presentation, there were significant difference between 1977 edition and 1989 edition of the elementary social science textbookd in Taiwan.   4. The vocational prestige ranking was stable for the elementary students in Taiwan, and it was not influenced by the Variables of sex, residence area, grade,   5.For the elementary school students in Taiwan, there was positives relationship between high prestige ranking vocation and the high interesting vocation.   6.For the elementary school students in Taiwan, there was positives relationship between low prestige ranking vocation and the high rejected vocation.   7.The vocational models presented in texbooks deeply influenced the vocational interest and rejection of elementary school students.   The author of this study proposed several suggestions for the career education of elementary schools in Taiwan.
