software quality in order to survive in the competitive market.
So, how to implement quality management and quality assurance
become important issues. Since the beginning of ISO 9000 in
1987, many countries have adopted ISO as their national
standards. In march 1990, our government promulgated the CNS
12680 series which is transformed directly from ISO 9000. So
far, over three hundreds companies in Taiwan have passed the
ISO 9000 certification. More than half of them belong to
electronic, electrical, and computer hardware companies.
However very few of them are software companies. Since the
business environments and operation of software companies are
quite different from manufacturing companies. So, this paper
investigates the issues of ISO 9000 implementation in software
companies. Implementation process model, and the difficulties
during the implementation process are the major parts of this
paper. This paper also provides some practical recommendations
and procedures to help software companies to obtain ISO 9000
certification.
