ture distribution on the boundary of a cutting tool prerfor-
ming the orthogonal cutting. The numerical model uses the tool
temperatures which is measured by a few sensors placed on the
tool surface to pedict the unknown boundary temperature distri-
bution, i.e., by an inverse technique. The inverse technique
consists two major part : (1)the optimization method, and (2)
the method used to solve 1 2D, steady state, heat conduction.
Also included is the analysis of methods improving the effici-
ency of the prediction. Some penalty functions were added to
improve the original optimization method. From the modified
scheme, certain rules as well as restributions of the method
were found and discussed.
