large storage device capacities, the services which support
continuous media will be fast becoming the next-generation home
entertainment. In order to offer users an easy way to access
these servers, it is important to support an efficient,
convenient user interface. In this thesis, we design the Ka-La
OK on Demand (KOD) system which provides users the Ka-La OK
entertainment. The KOD system is based on client/server
environment. In the client end, we implement an easy-to-use
graphical user interface based on Microsoft Windows and provide
the users an access method to get the required songs. In the
server end, we establish a database on UNIX-based system to
maintain the metadata. The metadata consists of titles of
songs, pictures of singers, personal information, hit parade,
etc. Users can use these information to select his required
song.
