layeredinvestigated. The outer layer and inner layer of the
layered composites were made fromcon nitride and TiN (or SiC)
-incorporated silicon nitride respectively. Results indicated
that the mechanical and fracture properties oftes are functions
of type and compositions of composites and the inner layer
thickness. Ael was also used for calculating the compressive
and tensile stress in the outer and inner layers forthe
experimental results. By controlling the type and volume
fraction of toughening phasesthickness , the flexural strength
and toughness were substantially improved.
