was prepared and copolymerized with acrylic acid or acrylic am-
ine and steryl acrylate . The copolymers were used for improvi-
ng the antiwear effect and modifing the viscosity index . The
viscosity index of lubricating oil was calculated accor- ding
to ASTM-2270 , and it was improved by adding the prepared
copolymers that were prepared. TheSEM photographs showed that
copolymers containing-N(CH3)2 groups or -COOH group performed a
thick oil film on the worn surface of rollers and it is thicker
for the former than for the latter . The ESCA
photoelectronspetra gave the evidence that the cop- olymers had
been already adsorbed on the roller surface by means of
analyzing the elements of Fe , C , O , N , Si on the metal
surfaces
