Current efforts of studying dependability focus mainly on static interconnection networks, such as hypercube. The proposed research is intended to analyze and evaluate dependability of miltistage interconnection networks(MIN). Understanding dependability of the MIN-based system is essential to the assurance of its applicability in critical parallel applications. It becomes more difficult than that of static networks, because switches in MIN introduce high complexity. In this report, we present an enumerative method for the task_based reliability evaluation of the MIN system with up to 50% system degradation. By 50% degradation we mean a half- sized subnetwork with the complete switching capability. Our method is based on the critical-failure concept. It uses a systematic approach of identifying failure patterns that lead to unsuccessful reconfiguration for a 50% subnetwork. Empirical result for networks up to 1024 × 1024 are sought.
