SmFe and SmCo thin films have been investigated. It has been
found that within the visible light, the films are transparent
with thickness less than 500 Angstrom for pure Sm films and 600
Angstrom for pure Fe and Co films. But, for the films of Sm1Fe5
and Sm1Co5, the transmittance decrease to almost zero with
thickness between 500 Angstrom. The electrical resistance of
the film-type samples increase proportional to the temperature,
but inversely proportional to the thickness. For the bulk-type
samples, the hysteresis loop of Sm1Co5 is greater than that of
Sm1Fe5, and the saturated magnetization of Sm1Co5 is less than
Sm1Fe5. But, for the film-type samples, the Hc and saturated
magnetization of Sm1Co5 and Sm1Fe5 vary with the thickness of
films. During the process of coating thin films,it will has
complete hysteresis loop and strong saturated magnetization
with heating the substrute. From the result mof X-Ray
diffraction pictures, they show the difference between thin
films and bulks, and when the thickness of thin films are more
than 1000 Angstrom that the peaks will be clear and obviously.
