Description
Summary:碩士 === 淡江大學 === 土木工程研究所 === 82 === During recent years, the number of vehicles have increased rapidly in urban contex which results in many transport pro- blems. Many advaaanced transport systems are introduced and implemented to promote high quality public transportation such as MRT、APM、LRT etc. Bus system and the mass rapid transit system are the major public transport modes in metro- politan. Due to the inherent characteristics and constraints, both modes can't provide satisfactory service for trips with trip length less than 7、8 kilometers, which belong to the categories of the medium and short distance transport pro- blems. Automated People Mover Systems(APM) are gaining propul- arily to serve short/medium distance of trips in many countries. Different APM systems have proved to be the solutions in many different application. This research is to exame such APM application cases and to explore the characteristics of APM systems interacting with the success of implementations. APM is a subgroup of Automated Guideway Transit Systems (AGT). It can be operated automaticly、with almost exclusive right of way. Monorail systems、Guideway Bus systems(GBs) and Light Rail Transit systems(LRT) etc. are most commonly used APM systems. The contents of this study is to: Identify the function and technology of the variant APM systems, focusing on types of route and characteristics of system technology, and to summarize variant applications in many cities around diffrernt nations. Tam Hai New Town is selected as preliminary case study where the feasiblity of applying APM is examined with preliminary possible alternative routes proposed.
