It had to face a most severest challenge to get out of the political shadow of five dynasties to rule the Dynasty. In the meantime, Both the political reforms undertaken and scholarship were aimed to beat the core problem. Though with a common political goal to rule the united kingdom ,the three emperors of the Sung Dynasty went all out for their political endeavors based on the different politcal situations. Frightened at the short duration of five dynasties, Ta''s Tsu (960~976) started political reforms to remove all the negative factors that had brought about the dramatic end of five dynasties . Then with a great concern with the politcal system in his mind , Ta''i Tsung (976~997) established a political structure suitable for the united Sung Dynasty, say, the recruitment fo the intelli- gentsia as the government officials. Finally, Jen Tsung (998~10 22) took it as the first priority to effectively manage the body of the recruited bureaucrats who were struggling for power. All of the urgent tasks done by the three emperors exerted a great deal of influence on the scholarship movements. To avoid repeating the tragedy of five dynasties, Ta''i Tsu laid a special emphasis on the history of five dyasties as well as Tang Dynasty. To build up a well-organized political structure for the united kingdom, Ta''i Tsung appointed officials to edit three great books in the framework of encyclopedia: Ta''i-Pyng-Yuh-Laan , Ta''i-Pyng- Goang-Jih , and Wen-Yuann-Ing-Hwa . And with the mind to slow down the fever to struggle against others for power, Jen Tsung assigned officials to compile Tsch-Fun-Yung-Guei , Which he praised as "typification of moral personality." Here,we could see the interaction between politics and scholarship in early Sung Dyasty, from which we have a good grasp of why scholarship movements changed and where they were directed toward.
