The Huang's axial effective wake model and Kerwin's program of propeller lifting surface were combined to calculate to axial effective wake and performance. As for the effec tive wake calculation of counter -rotating propeller, a tangential effective wake model was derived firstly. Then Huang's axial effective wake model, tangential effective wake model and Kerwin's votex lattice method were combined to calculate the effective wake and perf- ormance of contra-rotating propeller.The calculation results were good in agreement with measured data in the cases of 3686-3687 and 3686-3687A sets of contra-rotating propeller.
