The breeding seasons of Taipei treefrog are quite stable, from October to March. Larger and elder frogs enter the breeding pond earlier, such reproductive strategy increase the reproduc- tive success of males. The dynamic patterns between males captured and foams observed are different.Over 67% of individuals in breeding population are young frogs ,howevere, the age struc- tures of males and females are different . The onset of their breeding season is triggered by rainfall and low temperature. The intensities of reproductive activities are related with the rainfall, and the reproductive peaks of females and the peaks of rainfalls during the breeding season are coordinate. Mitochondrial DNA from 40 samples of Taipei treefrog collected from 7 populations in Taiwan was assayed to document the DNA sequence variation in anuran mtDNA and to elucidate phylogeographic population structure in Taipei treefrog. Sequences 722-764 bases in length, including a 108-bp fragment of cytochrome b gene and a 614-656 bp D-loop seeqment, were obtained by direct sequencing via the polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Two well differentiated lineages (northern and central) differing by mean sequence estimates of 1.7% to 1.8% were identified and concordant with their geographic distributions. The two lineages are inferred to be splitted from a common ancestral population in early Pleistocene. However, the intrapopulation divergence of northern lineage (<0.25%) was apparantly lower than that of central lineage (1.1%), impling the two lineages evolved independently and underwent different demographic histories after divergence.
