We derive the expected number of observable tumors in both cases where we either assume that a primary initiated cell and its descendants stay within the same clone and that at most one tumor in each clone can be observed or assume that a primary initiated cell may produce many primary malignant cells and each primary malignant cell is clone to itself and its descendants.
