The Posttest-Only Control Group Design wasadopted, and sub-
jects were randomly assigned to anexperimental group and a con-
troled group. After watching the counseling video tapes which
presented two different counseling situations, subjects were
eva- luated relevant to their help-seeking willingness and to
their perceptions of the effectiveness and empathy of the
counselor. The main findings of this study were as follows:⑴
The counselor who used advice-giving skills and information
giving skills was perceived more expert but less empathic than
one who didn''t use these two skills.⑵There was a significant
difference between male and female in their evaluation of the
effectiveness, trustworthiness and help seeking willingness
toward the counselors.⑶Female preceived the counselor who used
advice giving skills and information-giving skills was more
expert than one who didn''t use these two skills.⑷Male showed
higher willingness to seek helpfrom the coun- selor who did''t
use advice-giving skills and information giving skills.
